I loved this little book and hope many children have the chance to get to know Chloe, Boomer, Nana Weathers, Robbie and Hoppy. The author seamlessly weaves all sorts of good things into the story: friendship, music, support, self-esteem, magic, bravery, risk-taking, self-discipline, and the joy that comes as a reward for hard work. Children who need support for speech difficulties or shyness will especially love this story. The illustrations are charming, too.

Chloe is a nine year-old girl who has lost her parents, and is now living with her grandmother. She is self conscious because she stutters. Her grandmother, who has a magic ring, gets her a Cavalier King Charles puppy called Boomer, who hasn’t learned to bark. Chloe and Boomer work together through music to find their own voices and self confidence. They make friends at dog obedience school. This book is charming, heartwarming and explores themes such as friendship, overcoming fears and obstacles, practicing and trying your best. Suitable for middle elementary school students and could be read aloud to younger children.

I love this series, any book that has a dog for the main character is a winner for me.
Boomer is such a fun dog!
The author did a fantastic job of incorporating pet care into the book which I think is so important. Many children want a pet but aren’t sure the care that really goes into one.
I also thought the life lessons learned were brought out in an easy to understand way and the mystery surrounding the book was fun and made me excited to see what was going to happen next!
I can’t wait to read Book 3!!!

Thank you Christine Isley-Farmer for my gifted copy!

This book was such a cute and heartwarming story. I did not want to put it down .The book follows Boomer and Chloe on their journey to finding their voice/yip. The book focuses on the bonds between the characters and how they learn and grow throughout the course of the story. It is relatable to all on how everyone is different and has many different obstacles to overcome. We all do them at our own pace, there is no right or wrong way to do it. The book follows themes for friendships, trying something new and scary, and overcoming your fears if you try your best. You are never alone when you have friends by your side.

This was a fun book that made me want to read more about the puppy named Boomer, a little girl named Chloe and the adventures that await them and their friends. It will be a clear winner for children to read on their own, but also for those who are being read to by their parents or other caregivers.
